Speaking at an international conference in India, Mr. Karzai said extremism and violence by militant groups remained a fearsome challenge. The meeting in Delhi is aimed to improving Afghanistan’s economy by involving its neighbors in reconstruction. From Delhi, the BBC’s Sanjoy Majumder reports. “Afghanistan’s unique position in south and central Asia has meant that it has major security and economic implications for some of its more powerful and influential regional neighbors. Now they’ve come together, along with some G8 countries, to pledge more funds and find new ways of rebuilding the country after several years of conflict. Their efforts come, even as a resurging Taliban poses new threats to NATO and American forces in Afghanistan. More than 3,000 people have died in the country this year and earlier this week a top US General warned that the violence were set to worsen.”
