据英国《卫报》3月16日报道，前不久在德国杜塞尔多夫举行的世界杯技术会议上，埃里克森和欧洲其他一些国家队的教头曾联名提议，要求将参赛球员名单递交截止日期推迟到6月5日，即欧洲冠军联赛决赛之后。埃里克森表示希望留下足够时间，以观察球员的表现以及伤病恢复情况，之后再决定世界杯参赛球员名单。

　　世界杯组委会在16日举行的工作会议上正式拒绝了上述请求。国际足联在随后的声明中解释说，将截至日期维持在原先的5月15日，完全是出于保护球员的目的，即希望那些有望参加世界杯比赛的球员能够从繁忙的俱乐部赛事中解脱出来，特别是使那些有伤在身的球员能够拥有充足的时间恢复伤病。

　　世界杯组委会的声明还指出，一些参赛国在世界杯举行前宣布所谓的“大名单”，然后在截止日期临近时再对其“瘦身”，此举将严重损害某些球员的利益，剥夺他们参加所属俱乐部赛事的权利，是不可取的。

　　组委会在工作会议上还决定，所有参赛球员、随队官员、裁判以及比赛官员都必须签署一份保证书，声明绝不参加任何同世界杯相关的赌博活动。

　　Eriksson and other European coaches wanted Fifa to putthedeadline back until June 5 after the Champions League finalandEnglands final two warm-up games against Hungary andJamaica.However, despite making their case at a workshop inDusseldorfearlier this month, the idea was today rejected at ameeting of theWorld Cup organising committee.

　　The committee, chaired by vice-president Lennart Johansson,claimthe decision has been made to allow those players going tothefinals to rest from club football. The 32participatingassociations at the 2006 World Cup will be obliged tosubmit theirlist of 23 players by May 15 at the very latest, reada Fifastatement. This course of action is intended to afford theplayersconcerned adequate recovery time, although injured playersmay bereplaced after this date following a specific procedure.

　　Fifa was also worried that countries would be tempted to nameabigger squad at the start of May, taking all those players outofclub football, before trimming it to 23 for the final cutandsending the rejected players back to their clubs. Grantingalarger squad and a later deadline for the definitive listofplayers would mean any players who were not then taken intoaccountwould be missing from their clubs, added the statement.

　　The organising committee also decided that all players,teamofficials, referees and match officials must sign adeclarationpromising not to take part in any kind of bettingconnected to theWorld Cup.
