盛典揭秘：小金人说出笑点背后的故事

　　81届奥斯卡颁奖典礼丝毫没有受到经济危机的波及，规模较往年更大，形式也花样翻新。今年的主持人Hugh Jackman是大家都很熟悉的澳洲演员，在许岑老师即将开讲的“看电影，学英语”课程里面，还重点涉及到Jackman主演的Kate and Leopold.

　　Jackman在一开场就这样揶揄the academy—

　　The academy likes to salute range—

　　Kate Winslet—an English who plays a German in the reader, nominated

　　Robert Downny Jr.—an American who plays an Australian who plays an African American, nominated

　　Whereas me, an Australian who plays an Australian in a movie called Australia, hosting。

　　So I am the host this year but that’s not the only thing that is different. Everything has been downsized because of the recession. So next year, I am going to be playing in a movie called New Zealand。

　　the academy likes to salute range 这句话的意思是，academy awards 一向倾向于多元性，range在这里很显然指的是diversity. 也就是因为Jackman自己不多元，所以他只有主持的份儿。

　　紧接着，Jackman 把话锋转向Mickey Rourke，他说 –I want you to say whatever is on you mind. You know we have a 7 seconds delay tonight but if you win, we will switch to a 20 min delay. Mickey Rourke 曾经一度是好莱坞当红演员，但是在他声名鹊起的时候却自毁前程，但是在经历了消沉和失意之后，终于东山再起。Jackman的意思是说，不管你有什么疯话傻话或者很多心理话都尽管说，大不了我们延迟20分钟。在奥斯卡当天，我们看到不少嘉宾以及Jackman都在不停的提到Mickey Rourke的名字，以此作为对他的鼓励和支持。在得到最佳男主角提名时， Ben Kingsley这样提到他——

　　This is a guy who gets a second shot back in the ring and back in his life. Only a fiercely honest actor could be so effective as a guy who hasn’t had it easy, who has clearly learned the value of a chance and redemption. We are better off having you in the ring. The returning champ! 这里面提到的ring指的是拳击场，之所以这么说当然是因为Rourke在Wrestler里面的出演。

　　每年奥斯卡颁奖典礼的开场都会拿现场的嘉宾和获奖者开一通玩笑，今年当然也是如此。看着. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt，Jackman说， I actually don’t have a joke for them. I am just contractually obligated to mention their names at least 5 times tonight—我没有给他们准备什么笑话，只是根据合约，我有义务在今晚至少提到他们的名字各五次。Jolie和Pitt分别获得最佳男女主角的提名，所以多提几次他们的名字也无可厚非。

　　Meryl Streep 几乎年年都是大家开玩笑的目标，她成绩辉煌，而且人缘极好。Jackman说，Meryl Streep has 15 nominations –that’s a record. When someone puts up numbers like that it is high enough to think steroids. 而Steroids 指的是performance enhancing drugs used and abused in sports。

Best supporting actress

　　今年奥斯卡的一大看点就是把以往的得奖者扎堆请来宣读，热闹不同寻常。Whoopi Goldberg 在评价她的提名人时，说It’s not easy being a nun—take it from one who is been there and back(很显然，她指的是他从前的那部影片 修女也疯狂 sister act)。她紧接着说，first of all, your face never look thin; you never get to wear pants and your love interest is always off screen. But in spite of this, Amy Adams showed us how a woman could sum up the courage she didn’t know she had and place herself in the middle of a deeply troubling moral mystery. She was compelling and moving without a doubt. 很有意思的是，这部让Amy Adams获得提名的影片就是doubt. 一个doubt 让4个演员获得提名，除了Amy Adams，片中另一个演员也获得了最佳女配件提名，Viola Davis，她出演那个男孩子的妈妈。另外，Meryl 因为这个电影获得女主角提名，而Hoffman则是最佳男配角提名—显然，Doubt 应该是值得一看的影片。

　　Penelope Cruz 在得奖后激动万分的说，我45秒钟之内可说不完！--it’s not going to be 45 seconds. has anyone fainted before? Cause I think I might be the first one. thank you woody for trusting me with this beautiful character. Thanking you for having written all these years some of the greatest characters for women. …I always felt that this ceremony is a moment of unity for the world because art in any form is, has been and will always be a universal language and we should do everything we can to protect its survival。

　　Best original screen play

　　Tina Fay and Steve Martin 的出场引发笑声一片，作为著名晚间娱乐节目Saturday Night Live的当家人，他们出场时气势不凡，和他们笑星的身份形成极大的发差。当他们两个人在黑暗中缓缓走向舞台中央的时候，背后的大屏幕上打出这样的字来：

　　The two incredible presenters walk out to center stage。

　　The crowd is amazed by the star power and beauty of the two presenters。

　　The audience members are too stunned to leap to their feet except for those consumed by bitter jealousy。

　　当气氛造好，灯光这时才打在他们身上，让观众看清他们到底是谁，这时，背后大屏幕打出这样的字样The audience breaks into a wild, uncontrollable applause，而现场的观众也很捧场的鼓起掌来。两个嘉宾接下来说了一段像是crosstalk一样的对口词：

　　It has been said that to write is to live forever // And man who wrote that is dead。

　　Every great movie starts with a great screenplay // Or a very good idea for the poster, but usually a screen play。

　　他们终于适可而止，没有把oscar颁奖现场变成Saturday Night Live 的恶搞现场。

　　得奖者Dustin Lance Black 是一位年轻的剧作者。领奖的时候，他说道，I hope one day I can fall in love and probably get married. 他之所以这么说，其实是因为他自己也是一名同性恋者，就像影片中的Milk 一样。在致词的最后，他说，I promise you not before long we will have equal rights federally in this great nation of ours。

　　Best animated feature

　　最佳动画奖的颁奖嘉宾是Jennifer Aniston 和Jack Black， 而Jack Black 就是功夫熊猫的配音演员。看到熊猫输给了wall-e, Jack Black 打了一个小小的抱不平。

　　当Aniston颁发最佳动画短片奖的时候，她说，a lot of people mistakenly think it is easier to win the best short animated film。

　　Jack Black 立刻接过话题，说道，but that is not true. The shorter your movie, the less time you panda has to work its way into America’s heart. 在他看来，熊猫输给wall-e的原因就是因为影片本身短了那么一截子。

　　Best supporting actor

　　今年最佳男配角的得奖是英年早逝的Heath Ledger, 他在the Dark Knight 里面出色的表演甚至盖过了Hoffman的风头。英年早逝我们可以说是premature death, and Ledger was awarded an Oscar posthumously。

　　在评价Seymour Phillip Hoffman的表演的时候，颁奖嘉宾说道，fortunately for us, Phillip, your commitment for the truth in every moment keeps us exactly where we should be—unsettled, unsure, and uncertain. For this again this year, we sing your praises。

　　Sing sb’s praises的意思就是大唱赞歌。

　　Best documentary

　　颁奖嘉宾Bill Maher是美国著名的stand up comedian, 他新近刚刚制作的一部纪录片，用来宣传他的无神论的观点。 他在颁奖致辞中说道，

　　As a producer and a star in a documentary of my own this year—the one about religion that didn’t get nominated—I know it is a touchy subject but someday day we all do have to confront the notion that our silly gods cost the world too greatly. But there I go, I am ruining the ending. I am grateful that I live in a country where I can even put this film out。

　　The documentary film makers truly are a window into the world. They give us candid looks beyond our own circumstances and make us aware of the greater humanity around us. You should go see their movies are—starting with mine。

　　Maher 毫不掩饰他的无神论观点，也从来不怕因此得罪人。 在他几年前接受Larry King 的采访时，现场打进来一通电话。在他和那个打进电话来的观众之间发生了如下对话--

　　Reese Witherspoon 是一个来自Tennessee的演员，她的颁奖词里面充满了南方人的俏皮劲儿。因为在walk the line 里面的出色表演，Witherspoon得到过Oscar就加女主角奖。

　　There is one person we have yet honored. For those of you at home, they are the Ceo, the head honcho, the grand poobah, the big cheese。

　　CEO, head honcho, grand poobah, 和 big cheese 当然都是一个意思，指的都是the most important person. 除了这几种说法外，我们还可以说，big fish, big shot, 或者 big gun。

　　Witherspoon 接着说on site they can be you mother, your father and your therapist. They can even manage hostage negotiations when certain actor/actress having trouble coming out of their trailer—not I am speaking about myself but you know who you are. Ben stiller。

　　很显然，Witherspoon 在这里拿Ben Stiller 开了个玩笑，说他是那个不愿意从化妆车里面出来的演员，以至于导演要像作人质谈判一样去请他出来。

　　接下来，Witherspoon 用漂亮的语言大大的称赞了导演在一部影片中的作用。The director is a grand collaborator taking inspiration from all artists around them to create one singular vision, clarifying the screen writer’s words, creating a visual language with the cinematographer, helping each actor find a true emotional connection to their character, designing each shot so that everything in the frame adds to the immediacy of the story telling, making sure that every creative aspects work together to elevate craft to the level of art。

　　Danny Boyle，Slum Dog Millionaire 的导演最终捧得金人归，他在台上上蹿下跳的实现了曾经对他的孩子的许诺： My kids are too old to remember this—but I swore to them, if this miracal even happens, I would receive it in the spirit of tiger from Winnie the Pooh。

　Best actress

　　Sophia Loren 在提到她的提名人的时候，说，it is hard to know where to begin with the next nominee, her name itself has come to represent a whole world of unmatched excellence. So it is probably best to simply start there. 　　You fearlessly stepped into the shoes of someone struggling with addiction and grief. I think you are an amazing example of every young actress in this business because you are not afraid to show both your dark and your bright side。

　　Hathaway 在Rachel’s getting married 里面扮演了一个在戒毒所里面刚刚度过9个月时间的女孩Kym，她从戒毒所里面被暂时放出了仅仅是为了参加姐姐的婚礼。而重新面对家人对于她来说充满了挣扎。Hathaway对于这个人物的演绎至少让我对她有了新的认识。

　　影片中有一段动人的祝词，是一个family friend在祝福Rachel 和Sidney 的新婚之喜。他说， May you live to be a hundred and I a hundred minus a day so I would never know beautiful people like you passed away。

　　Hathaway的一年其实并不平静，她多年的男友因为financial fraud做了班房，这对她打击很大。而在面对Barbara Waters的访谈的时候，她说， 在过去的一年里，我知道了一件事，being vulnerable is not being weak. You got to let others help you sometimes。

　　Kate Winslet 最终了却心愿，在5 个 Oscar nominations 后终于捧得金人。在她speech的最后，她说，I have to acknowledge my fellow nominees—I think we all can’t believe we are in a category with Meryl Streep at all. I am sorry Meryl but you will have to just suck that up. 这当然是once again 对Streep的极大的褒扬。

　　Best actor

　　每年Oscar 的压轴当然都是最佳男主角。Robert De Niro 这样评价了Sean Penn, 他说—

　　How did he do it? How for so many years did Sean Penn get his job playing straight man? Being a movie star can get in the way of acting but not for Sean Penn, Sean loses himself in every role. Sean brings his commitment to his off screen life—you see him campaigning for human rights, respectfully advises the world leaders and gently, gently reasons the paparazzi. Tonight it is important to be a great actor and in life, it is great to be a human being。

　　Sean Penn 上台后，在他第二次领取了小金人的后，他志得意满的把台下的观众叫做--you commie, homo-loving sons of guns—当然，他这么叫，心里充满的是appreciation and love。
